GIFT City — International Financial Services Centre

Connecting Indian Investors with Global Financial Opportunities.

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, commonly known as GIFT City, is home to India's International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

The IFSC provides a regulatory and operational environment for eligible international financial services, including fund management, banking, capital market activities and other permitted financial businesses.

The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) regulates financial products, financial services and financial institutions within India's IFSC framework.

What Makes GIFT City Important?

GIFT City is intended to support international financial activity from within India.

It provides an ecosystem through which eligible investors and institutions may access permitted cross-border financial products and services.

The framework includes investment structures that may provide exposure to overseas securities, international funds and other permitted assets.

Investment Opportunities

International Investment Funds

Eligible investors may access authorised investment schemes operating under the IFSC framework.

These schemes may invest in international equities, debt securities and other permitted assets according to their mandates.

Global Diversification

International investment products may provide exposure to companies, industries, economies and financial markets outside India.

However, global diversification does not eliminate investment risk.

Foreign-Currency Exposure

Certain investment products are denominated in foreign currencies, introducing exchange-rate considerations for investors whose financial obligations are primarily in Indian rupees.

Alternative Investment Structures

The IFSC framework permits specified non-retail investment funds and other sophisticated structures, subject to eligibility and regulatory requirements.

NRI and International Investors

GIFT City also provides a framework for eligible non-resident and international investors to access permitted financial services.

Important Considerations for Resident Indians

Investment eligibility and remittance arrangements may depend on RBI regulations, the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), FEMA provisions and the terms of the specific investment product.

Taxation may vary significantly based on the investor's residential status, product structure and applicable legislation.

Understanding the Risks

  • International equity and debt market risks.
  • Currency fluctuations.
  • Product and fund-manager risks.
  • Liquidity restrictions.
  • Cross-border taxation.
  • Regulatory and jurisdictional differences.

Next Portfolio's Perspective

We believe GIFT City represents an important development in India's international financial services ecosystem.

Our educational approach focuses on helping investors understand the opportunities, eligibility conditions, structures and risks associated with IFSC investment products.

Access to or distribution of specific GIFT City products will be offered only through appropriately authorised entities and permitted arrangements.

Think Globally. Understand the Risks. Invest Responsibly.
