Our Beginning
The foundation of Next Portfolio was laid through the professional journey of its founder, Akshay Tiwari.
After completing his academics, Akshay began his career in the financial services industry and gained practical experience with institutions including BFC Capital Pvt. Ltd. and Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC.
These formative years provided him with exposure to financial markets, mutual funds, investment products, distribution practices and, most importantly, the expectations and concerns of investors.
In October 2006, he decided to establish an independent financial services practice and founded Next Portfolio.
The objective was clear: to create an organisation where investors could receive not merely access to financial products, but also consistent service, accessibility, education and a long-term relationship.
Nearly Two Decades of Investor Relationships
Financial markets have changed substantially since Next Portfolio was established.
During this journey, investors have experienced global financial crises, sharp market corrections, political and economic uncertainty, changes in interest-rate cycles, demonetisation, the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, inflationary cycles, commodity booms and corrections, and several powerful equity-market recoveries.
Technology has transformed the way investments are executed and monitored. Regulations have evolved considerably. New investment products and asset classes have emerged.
But one principle has remained unchanged at Next Portfolio:
Successful investing requires discipline across market cycles.
We believe wealth creation is rarely the result of continuously predicting the next market movement. It is more often the outcome of having an appropriate investment framework, maintaining diversification, reviewing investments periodically and allowing sufficient time for investments to work.
Our Philosophy – Client First
Since inception, Next Portfolio has followed a Client First approach.
For us, a client relationship does not end when an investment transaction is completed. That is often where the relationship actually begins.
We believe an investor needs support during both good and difficult markets.
When markets rise sharply, investors may become overconfident.
When markets correct, fear can lead to emotional decisions.
When a particular asset class or investment theme performs exceptionally well, investors may be tempted to chase recent performance.
Our role is to help investors maintain perspective and remain focused on their financial objectives rather than reacting to every short-term movement in financial markets.
Markets change. Our commitment to investors does not.
Our Investment Approach
At Next Portfolio, we do not believe that one investment strategy can be suitable for every investor.
Every investor is different.
Age, income, financial responsibilities, investment horizon, liquidity requirements, existing investments and ability to tolerate market volatility can vary considerably.
Therefore, we encourage investors to look at investments as part of an overall portfolio rather than evaluating every investment independently.
Our broad investment philosophy revolves around:
Asset Allocation
Different asset classes behave differently during different economic and market cycles. Appropriate diversification can help investors manage portfolio volatility.
Long-Term Investing
We encourage investors to distinguish between temporary market movements and changes that genuinely affect their long-term financial objectives.
Systematic Investing
Regular investing through SIPs can help investors develop financial discipline and participate across different market conditions.
Diversification
Concentration in a single sector, theme, asset class or investment style can significantly increase portfolio risk.
Periodic Portfolio Review
Investments should be reviewed periodically to determine whether they continue to remain aligned with an investor's objectives and circumstances.
Avoiding Performance Chasing
The best-performing investment of the recent past is not necessarily going to be the best investment for the future.
Investor Education Is Central to Our Work
One of the core principles of Next Portfolio is that an informed investor is more likely to remain a disciplined investor.
Financial markets inevitably experience periods of optimism, uncertainty, corrections and recoveries.
During such periods, communication becomes extremely important.
Next Portfolio therefore places significant emphasis on investor communication and education through market updates, investor letters, newsletters, portfolio discussions and educational content.
Our objective is to explain financial-market developments in language that investors can understand.
Instead of creating unnecessary fear during corrections or excessive optimism during bull markets, we try to provide investors with context and perspective.
We believe investors should understand not only where they are investing, but also why they are investing.
Mutual Fund Distribution
Mutual funds remain an important component of long-term financial planning for many investors.
Next Portfolio facilitates access to mutual fund schemes across different categories and asset classes, depending upon investor requirements.
These may include equity-oriented funds, hybrid funds, debt-oriented funds, asset-allocation strategies, index-oriented solutions and other categories available within the mutual fund industry.
Our involvement extends beyond transaction facilitation.
We focus on helping investors understand their portfolios, maintaining investment records, facilitating transactions and providing ongoing service support throughout the investment relationship.
Specialised Investment Funds – SIF
As India's investment landscape evolves, investors are gaining access to newer investment structures.
Next Portfolio is also an AMFI Registered SIF Distributor, enabling eligible investors to access Specialised Investment Funds in accordance with applicable regulations and product requirements.
We believe newer products should not be selected merely because they are new or sophisticated.
The investment structure, strategy, risks, liquidity characteristics and suitability for the investor need to be understood before making an investment decision.
Risk Profiling & Portfolio Understanding
Investment return cannot be considered independently of investment risk.
At Next Portfolio, investors are encouraged to understand their ability and willingness to tolerate fluctuations in portfolio value.
An investor seeking capital stability cannot reasonably maintain the same portfolio structure as an investor with a long investment horizon and a high tolerance for volatility.
We therefore believe that portfolio construction should consider factors such as:
- investment horizon;
- liquidity requirements;
- existing investments;
- financial commitments;
- expected volatility;
- diversification;
- concentration risk; and
- the investor's ability to withstand temporary declines.
The objective is not simply to pursue the highest possible return. It is to build an investment structure that an investor can reasonably maintain through different market conditions.
Service Beyond Transactions
We believe the true quality of a financial-services relationship becomes visible after the investment has been made.
Next Portfolio therefore places significant emphasis on ongoing client servicing.
Our service framework includes support for investment transactions, account-related requirements, portfolio information, documentation, investor communication and coordination with relevant mutual fund industry platforms and service providers wherever required.
Technology has improved the efficiency of financial transactions, but we continue to believe that technology should support relationships rather than replace them.
Investors should have access to both efficient digital infrastructure and human support when they need assistance.
Technology & Operational Infrastructure
Over the years, Next Portfolio has continuously upgraded its operational processes.
Digital investment and transaction platforms enable investors to complete many transactions securely and efficiently.
We use established industry infrastructure for transaction processing and portfolio servicing while maintaining appropriate documentation and operational processes.
Technology enables us to improve accessibility, record keeping and service efficiency, while personal interaction continues to remain an important part of our client relationships.
Transparency & Compliance
Trust cannot exist without transparency.
Next Portfolio believes that investors should clearly understand the nature of the financial products in which they invest and the role played by their distributor.
We operate within the regulatory framework applicable to mutual fund and SIF distribution and continuously work to keep our operational and compliance processes aligned with evolving industry requirements.
Compliance is not viewed merely as documentation. It forms an important part of maintaining investor confidence and building a sustainable financial-services practice.
Our Founder
Akshay Tiwari
Founder & CEO – Next Portfolio
Akshay Tiwari has been associated with the financial-services and investment industry for more than two decades.
Before establishing Next Portfolio, he worked with organisations including BFC Capital Pvt. Ltd. and Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, gaining practical exposure to financial markets and the mutual fund industry.
He founded Next Portfolio in October 2006 with the objective of building a relationship-oriented financial-services organisation.
Over the years, his approach has remained centred on investor education, disciplined investing, accessibility and long-term client relationships.
He believes that the responsibility of an investment professional is particularly important during difficult markets, when emotions can influence investor decisions.
His philosophy can be summarised simply:
Start Early. Stay Longer. Stay Disciplined.

Looking Ahead
The Indian investment landscape is entering an important phase.
Financialisation of household savings, increasing participation in mutual funds, technological innovation and the development of new investment structures are expanding the opportunities available to Indian investors.
At the same time, greater choice makes disciplined decision-making even more important.
Next Portfolio intends to continue evolving with the industry while protecting the principles on which the organisation was established.
We will continue investing in technology, operational systems, investor education, compliance and client servicing, while keeping human relationships at the centre of our business.
Products will evolve.
Markets will change.
Technology will change.
But our fundamental commitment will remain the same:
